How to get more Google reviews for your roofing company
Ask every customer, by text, within a day of finishing their roof, with a direct link to your review page. That one habit does more for your Google Business Profile (Google My Business) than anything else on this site.
Why reviews decide who gets the call
When a homeowner looks at the map, the first things they see next to your name are your star rating and how many reviews you have. A roofer with 14 reviews sitting next to one with 200 looks like the riskier choice, even if the work is better. Google also uses reviews as one of the signals for who shows up in the top 3 on the map.
Step 1: get your review link
- Sign in to your Google Business Profile.
- Find "Ask for reviews" (or "Get more reviews") and copy the short link.
- Save it in your phone so you can paste it in seconds.
Step 2: send this text after every job
Hi [customer name], it's [your name] from [company]. Thanks again for trusting us with your roof. If you have a minute, a Google review would really help our small business: [review link] Thank you so much, we really appreciate you taking the time. And if you ever need anything for your roof, just call or text me at this number.
Text works better than email because people read texts. Send it the same day or the next day, while they're still happy with the new roof.
Step 3: catch up on past customers
This week, send the same text to your last 10 customers. Most happy customers will leave a review. They just don't think of it on their own.
What not to do
- Don't pay for reviews or offer discounts for them. Google removes them and can suspend your listing, and US law (the FTC's review rule) bans buying reviews.
- Don't only ask happy customers while steering unhappy ones away. Google calls that review gating and doesn't allow it. Ask everyone the same way.
- Don't post reviews for yourself or ask staff and family to do it.
- Don't tell customers what to write, and don't ask them to name a staff member or hit a review target. Google added these rules in April 2026.
